Year 7 PDHPE

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is a mandatory course that is studied in each of Years 7–10. PDHPE develops students' capacity to enhance personal health and well-being. It promotes their enjoyment of and commitment to an active lifestyle and to achieve confidence and competence in a wide range of physical activities.

Through PDHPE students develop knowledge and understanding, skills and values and attitudes that enable them to advocate lifelong health and physical activity.

Topics

In Year 7, students study PDHPE for six sessions per fortnight for the entire year. Topics covered include:

  • Skills and Thrills
  • Who Am I
  • Shake Rattle and Roll
  • Family and Friends
  • Smart Heart
  • Surf's Up

Outcomes

Students receive two written reports that indicate their academic progress. Parents are also invited to contact the school to make an appointment to discuss issues of concern with the class teacher or the head teacher. Student's progress is assessed against the course outcomes. A sample of the course outcomes are outlined below for Semester 1.

  • Examines the relationship between cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual components of health.
  • Demonstrates movement skills through a range of experience.
  • Engages successfully in a wide range of movement situations that displays an understanding of how and why people move.

Assessment

Assessment in years 7 is spread over all units taught and is broken up into Semester 1 (Half yearly Report) and Semester 2 (Yearly Report).  Each individual unit of the course has a variety of tasks that make up the allocated percentage of marks which relate to the course outcomes.  Tasks include: practical skill marks, knowledge tests, book marks, research assignments, oral reports, plans and programs, participation in practical classes, group presentations and completion of worksheets and homework sheets. 

Year 7 PDHPE  – GATS

All Students have the opportunity to develop their skills in a particular sporting endeavour. Every opportunity to extend a student's ability is provided where practicable. This is achieved through a range of in school training sessions, or representation in Zone, Regional and State teams.

The school encourages all students to participate in sporting activities to develop not only their talents in this area but personal fitness.
